Burnt Store Isles
Burnt Store Isles is the sister canal system to Punta Gorda Isles. It is located 5 miles south of Downtown Punta Gorda, and boasts 9 miles of saltwater canals. Both PGI & BSI have their seawalls maintained by the City of Punta Gorda. This location provides direct access to Charlotte Harbor that provides the gateway to unparalleled boating and fishing opportunities, and opens into the Gulf of Mexico. Punta Gorda means 'fat point,' a reference to the wide peninsula on which this attractive waterfront community sits. This part of the canal system feeds out to Charlotte Harbor through Alligator Creek, with this pass maintained to a level of 5’ at mean low tide.
Home building in BSI began in the 1980’s as a planned community with many condos and custom-built homes either on a salt water canal or surrounding the Twin Isles Golf Course and picturesque lakes. Homes in the Isles follow code enforced building and maintenance standards. They are stylish custom-built Florida style stucco homes with tile or metal roofs. Since people locate here for the weather and boating, outdoor living space is key. Owners incorporate inviting outdoor living spaces into their homes, many with expansive lanais, outdoor kitchens, pools, spas, and of course docks, and lifts.
Some home sites are available in BSI for building custom homes. Most residences are single-family homes, and there are also townhomes, villas and condos on the eastern border of the community. This neighborhood offers a quieter setting away from the downtown district. There is a strong HOA Association that is optional to join, and a Neighborhood Security Watch though all of Punta Gorda.
The Twin Isles Golf and Country Club lies at the center of the community, and a newly updated shopping center is at the outskirts featuring a Publix grocery store and The Home Depot.
