Punta Gorda Isles
Punta Gorda Isles is an incredible waterfront boating community in the City of Punta Gorda. It boasts 45 linear miles of salt water canals (initially carved out of a mangrove swamp in the 1960s) throughout a land mass that is surrounded by the Peace River & Charlotte Harbor. This location provides direct access to these two bodies of water that provide the gateway to unparalleled boating and fishing opportunities. Punta Gorda means 'fat point,' a reference to the wide peninsula on which this charming waterfront community sits. Most of the canals offer unrestricted access to open water, though a few areas have 11.5-13.5’ fixed bridges to consider. All of the water ways in this area are dredged to a minimum of 6’ at mean low tide.
Homes in Punta Gorda Isles line the canals or the emerald green links of St. Andrews South Golf Course, the only private course in Charlotte County. Most homes have waterfront access with a dock, which makes this a boater's paradise. Those homes and lots on the golf course are comparatively less expensive than those on the water. Home styles range from luxury waterfront estates to single-family homes to maintenance-free condos and villas. PGI still has some vacant residential lots, so people interested in building new still have terrific options. The area has numerous custom home builders that have been in business for multiple generations and have built many of the custom homes in town.
The Maze of salt water canals have city maintained seawalls, with access to open water. Standard canal lots are 80’ x 120’, though many vary in shape & size. Some boast as much as 170’ of water frontage and are referred to as “Tip Lots” at the ends of cul-de-sacs. Homes in the Isles follow code enforced building and maintenance standards. They are stylish custom-built Key West and Florida style stucco homes with tile or metal roofs. Since people locate here for the weather and recreational lifestyle, outdoor living space is key, so owners incorporate inviting outdoor living spaces into their homes, many with expansive lanais, outdoor kitchens, pools, spas, and of course docks, and lifts.
The area has waterfront villas and condominiums for annual as well as seasonal homeowners and renters. Some condos and homes are right on the harbor or the canals with amazing views and even boat slips.
The neighborhood brags of: The Isles Yacht Club with a full-service marina with Har-tru tennis courts, lunch and dinner daily, fitness, pool and other amenities; a strong civic association that is optional to join offering meeting rooms, classes and tennis; Ponce de Leon Park at the tip of PGI which is perfect for sunsets with a boat ramp and wildlife sanctuary.
Fishermen’s Village and the Visual Arts Center, treasures of Punta Gorda, are located on the eastern edge of the district.
